This year St Patrick’s Day is on Thursday March 17. This yearly celebration has both religious and cultural significance. It celebrates St Patrick, a patron who converted the pagan Irish to Christianity. The day marks a time when people of Irish heritage celebrate the jovial and lighter side of the culture including wearing green, music and lots of beer.
The Russian Orthodox Church has officially added a day to celebrate St Patrick, Ireland’s patron saint, to its calendar. There’s a catch: the March 17 holiday, which Moscow has already enjoyed for 25 years, is set to be marked on March 30.
If you’re fond of going green, check out a few St Patrick’s Day celebrations taking place around St Petersburg:
- in Tymyryazev library there are Irish movies and number of master-classes to make the symbol of luck — four-leaf clover; from 17-24 of March;
- in the cultural center «Heart» — there is «Folk-Rock Fest».
May your glass be ever full.
